Why you should opt for Economics as an Elective Subject

In the contemporary scenario, knowledge about the forces governing global economy has become as important as wearing a life-jacket. To quote Alvin Toffler, "People who re-orient themselves to the changes unleashed by the information age will survive..... those who don't will swirl down the storm drain of history". The course in Economics is for those of you who are interested in following the trends in both Indian economics as well as world economy. It enables you to have a better understanding of the economic issues relating to India in terms of agriculture, industry, financial institutions, human resources and the role of the welfare state, vis-a-vis those on an international level by theoretically formulating the entire scenario. It also gives you a grounding in a subject which is an important component of career-oriented higher education these days.

The study of Economics as a discipline subject helps the students to gain admission in prestigious professional courses like MBA, MFC. The subject equips them for competitive exams like IAS, IES and probationary officers in Banks and other financial institutions. With globalisation, opportunities in MNCs have also increased considerably.

Study of Economics increases general awareness, and understanding of various problems and issues of the Indian economy and also world economy. The student, then can confidently face the GDs and interviews in various MNCs and International organisations like World Bank, IMF etc.
