GARGI COLLEGE PRODUCTION GOES PUBLIC:
Gargi College has reached the heights of academic excellence
in recent years. Our extra-curricular activities not only are
just in addition to the academics, but often they offer our
young promising students a platform to reach out to the world
and exhibit their talents.
This year Gargi College chose to perform Federico Garcia Lorca's
Blood Wedding, a spectacle of human passion through sophisticated
and often surrealistic poetic techniques, elevating the love
story to a tragedy of fate. The play was performed at Shri Ram
Centre on 26th and 27th November 2005. Our students gave an
enthralling performance on stage for which the production got
rave reviews in The Times of India, Hindustan Times, The Hindu
among others. Their showcase of talent was not limited to on-stage
performance only; it was a total training on back-stage and
other aspects of production for our students.
This play was adapted from the powerful English translation
from Spanish by James Graham-Lujan and Richard L.O Connell and
was directed by Nicholos Kharkongor. Gargi College also involved
some male actors in the cast. Vishal Dar introduced digital
scenography onto the Delhi stage and made our play one of the
first productions to experiment with this innovation. Deepak
Castelino not only composed the music for the play, but also
performed it live! The entire back-stage management, including
costume and make-up, was handled very efficiently by our students
and college staff members.
