Principal's Message

Dear Friend,

Thank you for your interest in Gargi College. I am often asked by the media what has contributed to the recent meteoric growth in popularity of this college. If I had to answer this question in one sentence, I would say, “It is the collective vision of this college which is extremely progressive, quick to embrace change and modernity, and always striving to maximize opportunities for its students to develop a rich personality.” The college has a highly qualified faculty, which imparts quality education in the classroom and also tirelessly engage in offering multifarious forums for personality development. From cultural
events to intellectual seminars, from socially sensitizing programmes to enhancing aesthetic sensibility, the college has a rich fare to suit all types. The following pages in the prospectus will offer a glimpse of our diversity. We believe in a judicious mix of freedom and discipline. And, above all, we believe in women's empowerment, true to the legacy of Gargi, one of the early
woman scholars of India, mentioned in the Upanishads and who was men's equal in all branches of knowledge.

The University Grants Commission has granted to Gargi College the title 'Centre with Potential for Excellence'. Of course we have already crossed several milestones of excellence in our academic and extra-curricular performances. The title is a recognition on another plane, which is, the endeavour of the college to engage in advanced research and socially purposeful projects over and above regular college events. Nine departments of the college are currently pursuing the route of research, discussions or interactions with society towards goals that will bring in, small perhaps, but vital changes in our socio-economic and ecological environment. We invite our students to share in this excitement.

India is still by no means an affluent nation. Poverty is still rampant. Students should remember that higher education in our country is heavily subsidised. Fees do not account for even a tenth of the annual budgeted expenses of running the college. Hence we welcome only those students, who show promise of commitment and responsibility towards self-development as well as image-building of Gargi College and who will have, at the end of three years, deserved the precious money that the government will be spending on them.

I wish you all the best in your efforts to obtain admission in the institute of your choice.
