Why you should opt for Applied Psychology
(Hons.)
The Applied Psychology (Hons.) course offers both theoretical
and practical insights into the psyche of a person who functions
as an individual and also in group situations. The basic premise
of Applied Psychology is the use of psychological principles
and theories to overcome practical problems in fields, such
as Social Psychology, Industrial and Organizational Psychology,
Clinical Psychology etc. !
We all interact with dozens, if not hundreds, of people on
a regular basis. Some of our encounters go better than others.
Some leave us feeling uneasy and anxious. What elements of
our personalities and of the people we meet make the difference?
This is the subject of Social Psychology-the scientific study
of how people think, influence, and relate to one another.
Industrial and Organizational psychology studies people behavior
in the workplace. This branch of psychology attempts to apply
psychological results and methods to aid workers and organizations.
Clinical psychology is the application of psychology to mental
distress in a health and social care context. Clinical Psychologists
assess mental health problems; conduct and use scientific
research to understand these problems; develop, provide and
evaluate psychological care and intervention strategies (psychotherapy).
!
The Practicum Each course is supported by a practicum.
As part of this, you will be involved in extensive practical
applications of the theoretical knowledge gained. In the first
year students focus on assessing specific abilities, interests,
values, and personality characteristics in a laboratory environment.
In the second year students enrolled in the fields of Social
Psychology and Industrial /Organizational Psychology design
research projects appropriate for the field of study. Under
supervision of the coordinator of the fieldwork, students
select a field site and initiate research. The primary focus
of fieldwork is to provide our students with supervised hands-on
experience, the ability to undertake specific tasks related
to each field site and opportunities for self-exploration,
research, and interviewing skills.
