the industrial processes, agricultural practices, fossil fuel combustion, and deforestation have affected the earth’s machinery and have resulted in causing heat waves, extreme cold, intense hurricanes, tornados, drought, and melting of the polar icecaps.
Global warming is a silent killer affecting every aspect of nature’s function and gradually strangling life on earth. It is perhaps the greatest threat faced by planet earth today. Every individual needs to contribute in an effort to stem this tide by being more aware of the impact of his/her activities. But, for anyone to contribute, ’personality’ is very important and for anyone to have ’a personality’, s/he has to be psychologically and physically sound and socially responsible. Planting trees and developing technology that removes carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases can be effective only if the primary source of the problem —human thinking and activity —is controlled. If every individual understands that their use of electricity, water, gasoline, and unwanted products is leading to global warming, and acts to limit their use, then and only then can global warming be controlled.
Indeed, 9/11 is one of the greatest turbulences of the 21st century impacting nations and people across the world. The psychological and social impact of 9/11 needs analysis, even more than the physical, as the roots of socialism, democracy, human bonding, and trust remain shaken.
September 16th is International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. Global warming leads to greater ozone depletion! September 8th is International Literacy Day, and September 21st is International Day of Peace. |
