Challenges universities face
With changing times, mindsets are changing. We expect that students should graduate and become productive citizens. Unfortunately, our outdated educational system and pressures of modern life with less focus on value systems, fails to prepare our children for the realities of their outside world. Frustration is building up. This is reflected through the myriad societal problems such as the increasing crime rates, drop outs, juvenile delinquencies, teenage pregnancies, drug addicts, HIV, broken homes, terrorism etc. The list is endless.
Our higher education system needs to achieve better practical bias. Globalization and technological advances are opening up more choices, putting pressures like never before on colleges and universities to improve performance and the education experience. Their output has to be relevant to industry.
At the same time, institutions have to contend with different factors. Regulatory requirements and different stakeholders, ranging from the community, politicians to the government, all form the backdrop of political and economic influence in governance. Right to Information is a must.
This new reality is forcing all educational institutions to undertake fundamental organizational changes and work towards transforming themselves into a ICT enabled environment. The “institute-centric” management is history. The institutions of the future is a “user centric” and an “electronically enabled” institution. The institution which is most agile and best able to provide a one-stop approach shall be the quintessential expression of user-centricity and success tomorrow.
